Most hotels will start charging one-night deposits on July 3. Please be aware that it takes a while to process everyone and your card may be charged on or after that date, but you should plan that the card you use today will be charged starting on July 3.
Hello,
I need a hotel room for 3 nights, 23rd July to 26th July, very near the Convention centre.
Please do let me know urgently of any availability

As a follow up, I got one of the top 3 hotel choices last week by stalking the web site. I haven't received anything that was actually informative or useful from the Travel Planners Waiting List.

I check the site many times a day to see if hotel rooms are available. Unfortunately I need to get into one or two specific hotels to use the gift cards I have.
I am supposedly on the Travel Disasters waiting list, but it took me one webform, three emails, two phone calls and one full month to get on it. I'm not relying on it, but it's one more ticket to the lottery.

After 90 2 1/2 hrs dialing to a busy tone and having the website freeze up, I finally got to make my reservations.
The con has become so huge since the past couple of years that CCI should have had plenty of time and fix the issues that's plaguing it now.
For the first time in the 30 plus years the con has been in existence, they completely sold out. That only should have been a warning sign of thing to come. But know, they didn't make any changes, and TPHousing server they said was better was a crock.

Unless and until TP gets their act together, it's best to keep checking the site instead of depending on the waitlist. I don't think anyone at TP has bothered to look at or organize the waitlists yet. I asked about the waitlist when I called to verify that I did not have a duplicate reservation since I got one of the stupid "Eric Ihle" emails because the hotels I want to waitlist for are not on the online waitlist! The very nice customer service person said she'd write down the additional hotels and add it to my current waitlist (which I submitted last week) but warned that I wouldn't be hearing from them unless there was a room available. Shortly after I hung up the phone, I checked the site and there were rooms (or possibly just one room) available at both the Hampton Inn and the Doubletree. Although neither of those were in my top three, they were on my waitlist (and I'm sure there are some folks who may have even had one of those two at the top of their list). After snagging one of those, I called to confirm the reservation since I did not get an email and canceled the room that I had managed to book at the Holiday Inn during the Wednesday clusterfsck. The HI room showed up almost immediately online as available (and was gone about 5 minutes later).

Wait-list versus Check TP housing Site??
If we added our name to the wait-list, ought we still check back here to see if rooms have opened up? I was hoping i'd be notified that a room was available at one of the hotels I selected wait-list rather than randomly checking the site.

CFB, please email me about the extra space you have in your room. Depending on the
cost, I might be interested.
Might help if I include my email. It's [email protected]

People still wanting a con hotel room should probably pay attention around the end of June. At around July 3, they start charging credit cards for a 1 night deposit so I'm going to assume that if people are going to let go of their rooms, it'll be around that time to avoid charges.
I didn't go last year because I couldn't find an affordable place at the last minute. I didn't know I might have the same problem in Feb!! Luckily, I had a backup hotel already booked and we lucked out...it's next to a hotel on the shuttle bus route.

I bought our 4 day passes at CCI last year. Got into the Travel Disasters site right at 9, after an hour of looking bad at work I got to the final confirmation screen. Oddly enough I did not get my reservation.
Also, Last year the hotel grid included the parking rates. It would be useful to have added this year.

Last year was the first time I tackled tphousing, and it was horrid but I was able to phone in after about 40 minutes and I got all 5 rooms I needed, although we were short the first night. I knew it would be worse this year. I had 6 rooms to book, and knowing that I could only do one room at a time online I gave up on that after about 5 minutes and went to the phone. I got through after about 40-45 mins but all I could get was one room for only about half the stay I wanted, but like last year they put the remaining nights and the other rooms on a wait-list. Last year I had luck getting the night I needed for all 5 rooms after a few months, no clue if that will be the case this time for the missing nights and remaining 5 rooms. But reading everyone's comments here makes me marvel at how I even managed to get through in only 45 minutes let alone get a few nights on one room. I agree that this is all crap and that there should be a way for pre-reg folks or something to have an early crack at rooms. This year we plan on trying to make non-Con rate reservations at the Marriott while we're down there.

After 3 years of trying I finally got a room this time(2 hours on-line! BUT...
WTF kind of contract does TP have with Comic-con that they can't be held responsible for the crap you have to wade through to get a room?
Can't CC just fire them? They know how bad it is for everyone...
I completely agree that the pre-registed should get first crack at rooms---

I agree with those who suggest giving priority to those who book four or more hotel nights in a row, or giving priority to those who have pre-purchased a four day registration. I had a horrible time today as well with the booking system; got an open room then the system hung up right before the personal information page could open and crashed afterwards.

We booked a room for 3 at a CON hotel, but now it seems that the 3rd gal won't be coming. We want to offer the 3rd space to someone else.
Is there some message board (style craigslist) that we can post and interest people who want?
btw, the room is for 4 nights (wed-sun) and the hotel is about 1 mile away from the con.

As another commenter said, things should be getting better, not worse. I tried posting by trolley horror story the other day with no success. A pre-curser to today I guess. All the travel agency is going to say is "So?"

I got to the credit card popup twice, filled
it out twice, clicked ok button twice....
nothing...no confirmation webpage or email.
Ssssssssucks!

This just isn't working. I've been attending since 1991. this con has grown into a monster. You can't count on attending when you can't get a room! and I'm a Pro! I count on the income that gets generated by this convention. Quit advertising to the masses! how about limiting in state people. Some of us are from other points in the country you know! it's suppost to be our con, Not the mindless masses who want to meet that one person. Getting around is a problem. When will this crap stop! What are you going to do about this, other than post a blog that you have no intentions of replying to?

Aside from the frustrations already outlined with the website, I am surprised that there is no priority given to four night stays?
Getting through the website / server error gauntlet only to find that most places are sold out Fri/Sat, when I want to give them my money for four nights, adds another layer of frustration.
And I'd like to echo the suggestion that priority be given to those who have actually pre-registered for the Convention. Heck, I'd even be willing to pre-pay all nights in advance.

Argh, OK. I got through on the phone after getting only busy signals for and hour, only to sit on hold (lovely music by the way) for another 1.5 hours and have no one pick up.
I lost 2 sets of reservations - got all the way past book it, entered by credit info, confirmed, and then post-confirm it died.
Finally ended up booking around the 25th, then booked the night of the 25th at a non-con hotel. I hat to switch hotels mid con, but it seemed to be the only option (that or pay an arm and a leg).
Seriously - this process needs improvement. They've got to know by now that there's a flood of people within the first hour or so - build your system to handle it.

Yes I agree, move to Vegas but improve your web site.
I went back again to try the Marriot and of course now they only have saturday open.
Nice! There should be a way to book whatever nights are available-I had 3! Twice but could not proceed! You need to be able to SEE the nights available in front of you without having to wait 20 minutes while it hangs trying to go to another pop up window that still doesn't help you book what available. LAME.

In case folk have given up - try the site now - there are still some hotels open...
Posted by: dwf | February 06, 2008 at 11:14 AM
After TWO HOURS of trying, finally got back into site, lost my room @ the Hyatt.
My other choice Hotels SOLD OUT.
Phone Lines still busy.
Terrible.
Earlier I hadn't been hitting refresh either. A couple times, entered all info and clicked waited 20 minutes plus, page came back with errors.
Sorry to say, I won't be going this year.
First one I 'll miss in 17 years. Just tired of dealing with it all.
(FYI - I did get a postcard with the HOTEL SIGNUP date.)
:(

Refreshing and redialing for almost two hours now.
I got to see book it four times. One time even got to put in my credit card info. Oh, the recommendation about just never hitting refresh and letting the page load? didn't work for me. I would get "page cannot be displayed" errors after 15 minutes and would take me back to the beginning.
This is it for me, unless something changes, I'm uninterested in riding the "possibly homeless in SD" ride again. The convention is not worth the stress. What's sad was that I was secretly happy that CC made no effort to contact attendees and tell them when the hotels were going up, and waiting until the last second to even post it on the website. I was hoping (rather evilly, I'll admit) that it would cut down on the competition today for rooms. Obviously not. I just feel really bad for everyone who didn't know about today and are in for a rude awakening.
Move to vegas or accept you are losing long term attendees in droves.

Well, I got my reservation in through the website. The only advice I can give is have some patience and stop hitting Refresh so much. I had to restart my reservation twice. Once, after a few minute wait, I thought it had died and I hit F5, only to see the page finish rendering before taking me back to the beginning. And then once after submitting my credit card info and receiving a HTTP Error 500.13 - Server error: Web server is too busy, where the server lost all my session variables.
But after that it ran pretty smoothly. My hotel choice was still available (and still is!), AutoComplete refilled in all my contact and CC info, and I have my confirmation email.
Tphousing handles a lot of other conventions. (I've gone to two work-related cons setup through them.) I just don't think any of the other cons have this massive amount of people try to reserve rooms the _instant_ they are available.
Good luck all.
